<p>The method relates to laying out a data transmission cable within a building or a complex of buildings, for example a chemical plant or machine tool stations (ST1 to Stn) which are dependent on centrally stored data, less vulnerable to damage to the data bus cable. If cable damage at a given point (U) occurs it usually takes time to insert a replacement length. It is thus proposed to instal a reserve line (RL) in a neighbouring cable duct unlikely to be affected by the same source of damage which destroyed the main cable (at U). Communication can be restored quickly by removing the termination resistance (RA1), connecting it at one end to the disconnected portion (T) and connecting the reserve cable (RL) in place of the resistance (RA1). The same procedure is followed at the other side.</p> |
