The invention concerns the use of a glutamate release inhibitor, and more particularly riluzole, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts of said compound, for preparing medicines for treating diseases related to retinal ischemia such as for example, occlusions of the retina arteries or veins, ocular contusion, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity, inflammatory diseases and hemopathy.
