The ignition circuit includes a cold start unit (A) having an oscillator which develops a direct voltage at its output (1) higher than the prevailing voltage of the battery (G). The oscillator supplies the increased voltage only during operation of the starter (F) when a positive potential is applied to a control input (3) via a connection to the starter solenoid (E,H). The oscillator has a transformer coupled output which also provides a d.c. path between its supply input (2) and the output (1) for normal unboosted current supply to the ignition coil (B) after the engine has been started. Conversion of a conventional ignition circuit is achieved simply by inserting the unit (A) between the ignition switch (D) and the coil (B) and making the control input connection to the starter solenoid (E,H). <IMAGE> |
