The equipment fills the fuel tank of a motor vehicle equipped with a filling spout via a hose inserted in the latter. The spout (3) contains a filling pipe (8) extending nearly to the tank bottom (11), and whose external dia. is less than the spout ID. The other end of this pipe, inside the spout, can be connected to the free end of the filler hose (7). A detector (15) is mounted inside the tank near the top (14), and operates on filling to a set level, being connected via a control pipe (16) to a unit shutting off the fuel flow through the hose.
