The forklift truck mast has fixed and telescoping sections each comprising vertical rails spaced apart, the telescoping one accommodating the lifting slide. A single unsymmetrical lifting ram (54) is coupled to the telescoping section, with a relatively long rope or chain (74) coupled between points (75, 72) on one side of the ram and on the telescoping section. The ram is mounted to one side, protruding into the field of vision of the driver beyond the adjacent vertical rail. A second ram (90) lifts the slide on the telescoping section independently of the movement of the latter on the fixed one, its effect in conjunction with the first ram being to equalise the lifting moment on the mast with a centrally-situated load. |
