The coupling is used on oil pipe lines etc, permitting axial thermal movement with rotation, and utilising conveyed fluid pressure to obtain axial equilibrium. It comprises a spigot and a socket which each incorporate several co-axial annular sections and are fixed to the respective pipe ends. The assembly defines three annular cavities together with a compensation chamber, the latter being bounded by cavities and by opposed radial faces. An axial extremity of each cavity is closed by a deformable membrane with passages connecting the cavities and chamber to the interior of the main pipes. An elastomeric ring may interpose the pipe ends. The cavities have equal mean dias. equated to the mean dia. of cavity.
