Title compds.(I; R1,R2,R6 are same or not, H, lower alkyl; R5 = R1 or benzyl; R3,R4,R8 = lower alkoxy; R7 = H, lower alkoxy; m = 1-2; n = 2-3), useful as heart frequency lowering agents, were prepd. by the reaction of II and III(Z = Cl, Br, I, alkylsulfonyloxy or arylsulfonyloxy). Thus, 3.0 g 6,7-dimethoxy-3,4-dihydro-2H-isoquinolin-1-one and 0.5 g sodium hydride were heated at 90≦̸C for 1 hr in DMF, followed by addn. of 8.5 g 1-[2-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-ethyl-methylamino -3-chloro-propane, and reacted at 140≦̸C for 7 hr to give I.
