In the recovery of vanadium from the slag obtd. in steel prodn. from sponge iron, pref. by the electroslag process, by subjecting the slag to reduction to produce a vanadium-contg. pig iron, an additional amt. of vanadium-free or low-vanadium pig iron is added during reduction, and then the resulting vanadium pig iron is selectively oxidised, by the 'agitated ladle' process to give a vanadium-rich slag. The increased quantity of pig-iron gives improved extraction of vanadium from the slag and improved control of vanadium yield and the vanadium concn. in the final slag. |
