An essential concept of the invention is thus a continuous mixer which, in a chamber which at its opposite ends has an inlet and an outlet for the material to be mixed, has two mixer shafts which are located next to one another and each have a delivery section, a mixing section and a discharge section. The mixing section has head strips, i.e. faces which radially delimit the heads of the mixing section and whose width is from 4 to 6 times greater than the interspace between the head strips and the walls of the chamber. The maximum shearing rate is in the range of from 300 to 500 sec<-1>. As can be seen from the above description, the invention ensures excellent mixing action in the case of special synthetic resins, which had been difficult to mix adequately with conventional mixers. The invention further contributes to the improvement of the physical properties and the quality of various synthetic resins.
