PURPOSE:To obtain 1-2C oxygen-containing compounds composed mainly of ethanol, in high selectivity, by contacting gas containing H2 and CO or CO2 with a catalyst comprising Rh, zirconium oxyde and/or titanium oxide, and silica. CONSTITUTION:1-2C oxygen-containing compounds composed mainly of ethanol, are obtained by contacting gas containing CO and/or CO2 and H2 with a catalyst which comprises Rh, zirconium oxide and/or titanium oxide, and silica. The weight ratios of the catalytic components are as follows: Rh:zirconium oxide etc. is 10:1- 1:10, zirconium oxide etc.:silica is 10:1-1:10, and Rh is 0.1-10% of the total weight of the catalyst. The catalyst is prepared as follows: Silica is impregnated with a solution of a compound of a metal, e.g. Zr, Ti etc., thermally decomposed, again impregnated with a solution of a Rh compound and heat treated, etc. |
