摘要 A transflective in-plane switching mode LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to improve color characteristic and viewing angle characteristic of the LCD by reducing the use of a retardation plate. A transflective in-plane switching mode LCD includes a back light unit, a first retardation plate(320), a pattern retardation plate(330), and an in-plane switching liquid crystal cell(360). The first retardation plate retards the phase of light emitted from the back light unit. The pattern retardation plate includes a transmission region(335) that transmits the light phase-retarded by the first retardation plate and a reflection region that blocks the light phase-retarded by the first retardation plate and reflects external light. The in-plane switching liquid crystal cell selectively transmits light inputted/projected to/from the pattern retardation plate according to horizontal alignment of liquid crystal molecules. The reflection region of the pattern retardation plate includes a reflector(350) for reflecting the external light, and a second retardation plate(340) for retarding the phase of light inputted/projected to/from the reflector.
