Artificial horizon device for flight simulator - projects film slide image onto wall of large diameter sphere containing flight cabin

The artificial horizon device uses a lamp mounted at the centre of a transparent dome supported to allow rotation about an initial axis and a film slide carried by a support which rotates in synchronism with the dome about the same axis. The film slide is illuminated by a second lamp mounted on this axis cooperating with a fisheye lens used to project the film slide onto the surface of a sphere containing a cabin for the pilot. Pref. the film slide is attached to a rotatable disc incorporating a number of such slides with a separate drive motor for rotating it about an axis at an angle to the initial axis. The drive motors for controlling the various rotations may be controlled by a processor.
