Composite panels with an insulating foam core and solid panels on both faces feature an oblique 'Z' profile along each edge so that adjacent panels assembled side by side are semi-interlocked against moving out of plane. The non-planar interface is less readily parted and penetrated by e.g. smoke or flame. The edge profile is symmetrical so that alternate panels may be assembled either way up. Specifically claimed for 1 x 2.5m panels for ceilings or firebreaks where the core is of phenolic or fire-retardant polyurethane foam 30-60 mm thick and at least one of the covers is of fibrocement or of waterproofed and fire retardant particle board. Pref. the 'Z' profile border, with ancillary flanges parallel to the inner faces of the covers, is made from card or from a thermoformable matl. such as ABS, as an extruded profile with a wall thickness of 1-1.5 mm. Opt. the face and edge panels are assembled and the foam mix then injected to develop in situ.
|
