Thermo-insulating panel for buildings - uses two glass sheets held apart by pillar studs with sealed edges and vacuum created in cavity

The thermo-insulating panel comprises two glass sheets (1, 2) maintained a constant distance apart by closely spaced pillar studs (4). Edge framing (3) maintains panel thickness and provides a seal, permitting the creation of vacuum in the cavity. The studs are made of thermo-insulating material. The spacing between the studs satisfies the equation sN=a(S/K) where s is the area of a stud, N is the number of studs and a is a safety factor of greater than 1, S is the surface area of the panel, and K is the compressive strength of stud material. The stud spacing may be less than 300mm. and is pref. between 20 and 30mm.
