The recording and playback system uses a tape transport and a rotary head support. The feed speed of the recording tape is considerably lower than the tape head speed. The recording medium moves in the region of the head support in a plane at right angles to the rotation axis of the head support. On the latter are mounted several video heads in identical spacing from the rotation axis and at uniform intervals. Three video heads are used. The track length of one video head may correspond to the contents of a half-frame. A recording tape used in the process may have a minimum width corresponding to the spacing of two video heads. On the long sides of the tape may be provided an additional signal track. The video head spacing and the tape and head support speeds are so matched that practically no intermediate spaces may be formed on the recording tracks.
