PURPOSE:To make high-density recording by high frequencies and high track densities possible by irradiating the laser light modulated by recording signals on a recording medium consisting of a thermofoamable material thereby forming rugged patterns. CONSTITUTION:A recording medium 1 formed with a recording layer 3 consisting of a thermofoamable material on a disc-shaped substrate 2 is run in an arrow direction. Next, the laser beams 5 outputted from a laser oscillator 4 is conducted to a light modulator 6 to which digitized recording signals 7 are being supplied. After the laser light 8 modulated by the signals 7 is outputted, it is condensed by a lens 9, and is irradiated to said recording layer 3, thereby allowing the thermofoamable material of the areas strongly irradiated with the laser light 8 to foam and forming the rugged patterns 10 corresponding to the signals 7 in the recording layer 3. This recording medium is suited for reproduction of video discs, tapes, etc. |
