<p>ELECTRICAL SOCKET CONNECTOR CONSTRUCTION An electrical socket connector construction for receiving the terminals of an electrical integrated circuit pack in which the body of the connector is formed in two steps. A housing is initially molded in rectangular, box-like form, its base initially being in two sections separated by a small gap. In a second step, the side walls are forced together to close the base gap and are locked together by a latching mechanism at each end. The top wall is buckled upward in the gap closure along hinge lines to form two peaked members each having a longitudinal slot on the inside of the housing. Rows of aperatures formed in the top wall and base admit the circuit pack terminals in the top and fit two-bladed contact receptacles in the base. One blade of each row is extended to engage a slot of the top members which, in their peaked state, hold the blades open. As the terminals of an integrated circuit pack are inserted therebetween, the body of the circuit pack forces the peak juncture of the top wall members downward beyond the horizontal in a "snap" action against the resilient spring action of the side walls. As a result, the extended blade of each contact receptacle is forced against a clasped terminal for positive electrical contact and locked-in securing of the integrated circuit pack.</p> |
