Process for coating a macroporous support with a microporous layer, to make filters, ultra-filters or barriers for isotopic sepn., comprises fixing the microporous layer by rolling and by repeated shocks from moving bodies, e.g. balls. The hardness of the balls is at least equal to that of the material fixed.The mechanical compressive action of the balls may take place on a layer of a powder of the material being fixed, previously introduced into the tubular support and put in place on its internal surface. Alternatively it may take place on a layer of a powder of the material being fixed in course of formation and as the powder is deposited e.g. by thermal decomposition of a gaseous mixt.Process gives a better fixation than that realisable by overall compression, as well as finer microporous layers. It gives homogenous densification and fixation, and uniform distribution at all points of the support. The action of the balls is limited to the powdered material being treated and does not have any effect on the support which would effect its mechanical properties and its permeability. |
