This invention is concerned with the wire sensing unit which generates digital signal for microprocessor control in the arc sensor system of welding robot. The absolute displacement of torch which is detected by an arc sensor is processed by a simple structured WSU unit without a software processing. When torch (3) is progressed by seam tracking between welded materials (G1, G2), the current between G1, G2 and torch (3) changes. This changed current is detected by the current detection device (31) and is amplified. The amplified signal is applied to the S/H (36-39) in which the applied amplified signal is transferred and stored. The multiplexer determines the input information.
