PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a video image display which does not a user by preventing a predetermined state from being displayed even if input of a signal from an external apparatus stops for a moment. SOLUTION: The control section of a television broadcast receiver has an external input display section for displaying an image based on an HDMI signal inputted from an external apparatus, and a state display section for displaying a "no signal" image on a display screen when the HDMI signal stops during control by the external input display section. The state display section performs signal check (S13) when a predetermined time elapses (S12:YES) after the HDMI signal stops (S11:YES). If the HDMI signal is not inputted (S14:NO), the "no signal" image is displayed on the display (S15). If the HDMI signal is inputted (S14:YES) and the external input display section succeeds in authentication processing (S21:YES), the "no signal" image is not displayed (S11) without annoying the user.
