NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic substances, mucopeptin A and C, having the following physico-chemical and biological properties: Elemental analysis, (A) C 51.97%, H 6.19%, N 10.04%, S 2.34%, (C) C 51.27%, H 5.88%, N 11.86%, S 3.37%; molecular weight (titration method), (A) 1,120, (C) 800; melting point (A) 172- 180 deg.C (decomposition ), (C) 178-182 deg.C (decomposition); specific rotation, (A) [alpha]D<20>=-25.4 deg., (C)[alpha]D<20>=-39.7 deg. (C=1.00, 50% methanol in both cases); solubility, both substances are soluble in water, methanol, etc., and hardly soluble in acetone, benzene, etc.; antibacterial spectrum, both substances have growth inhibtion activity to Gram-negative bacteria and acid-fast bacteria. USE:Antibacterial agent against Gram-negative bacteria and acid-fast bacteria. PROCESS:Streptomyces sp. K-64 strain (FREM-P No.5387) is cultured at 25- 35 deg.C pref. under nearly neutral conditions, and the produced micopeptin A, C complex is separated into each constituent by chromatography, etc. |
