<p>The starter system for a portable fluorescent lamp of the type used in workshops is designed for operation by a particular orientation. The starter consists of a free cylinder (4) that is located within an insulated housing (1). Two breaker contacts (2,3) are located in the mains line. When the unir t is inverted the cylinder falls to cause bridging of the contacts. The cylinder is produced from a lightweight material and is coated with aluminium foil. The starter system is readily built into a portable lamp and is intrinsically safe.</p> |
