An automatic process is used to stack and wrap coins in paper or textile cylinders and then stack the units in large cartons. The individual coins are sorted and stacked into cylinders (1) before being wrapped and discharged (4) onto a conveyor belt (6). The belt transfers to an inclined conveyor (7) that provides lift to the inlet of a unit that allows the cylinders to be entered into cartons. The cylinders are allowed to roll through a vertical (11) zig-zag path to provide the correct orientation for entry into a carton (21). The dispenser (11) may be moved to allow different denomination coins to be handled.
