Vacuum cleaner dust bag with lightweight retaining plate - has economically mass-produced sandwich material extruded into plates with flexible edges

The retaining plate (1) by which the filter bag is mounted in the correct position in the vacuum cleaner housing is made of a sandwich material comprising two thin cover layers (6,7) of plastics. It has an intermediate core which acts as a spacer for the cover layers but with the free edges allows the cover layers to bend. The dia. of the port (4) in the retaining plate is adapted to the dia. of the dust supply pipe, i.e. is somewhat smaller. A firm dust-tight connection is possible by bending the cover layers firmly round the pipe. The outer layers are pref. made of e.g. polypropylene or polyethylene with a grid or honeycomb- like core of polyurethane or polystyrene foam.
