Purificn. of wool grease to prepare lanolin - by alkali neutralisation of a miscella of grease in hydrocarbon solvent

(a) The grease/solvent is mixed with an alcohol in a ratio of from 10:1 to 10:4. (b) Aq. alkali is mixed with the alcohol in a ratio water/alkali/alcohol of from 60/75/2 to 5/20/35. (c) Mixt. (a) is then dispersed in (b) followed by phase sepn. by decantation. Process is used to obtain lanolin. It enable increased yield and qualtiy of prod. and simplifies both the process and the appts. required.
