A degassing apparatus and a method are disclosed. According to an aspect of the present invention, provided is the degassing apparatus which comprises: a vessel installed in an upper side of a ladle to accommodate molten steel, and having an ascending pipe and a descending pipe which are submerged in the molten steel; and a gas supply unit formed in the ascending pipe, and supplying mixing gas of backflow gas and backflow accelerating gas within the ascending pipe for the molten steel to flow backwards in the vessel and the ladle through the ascending pipe and the descending pipe. |
