A reactor (1) for exothermic reactions provided with bundles (4) of narrow axial cooling pipes, mounted between distributing and collecting drums (5, 6) («steam headers») provided with tube sheets (8). The distributing drums (5) are placed symmetrically around the outlet end (16) of a central axial coolant inlet pipe (7), recovering from top to bottom of the reactor (1). A feed gas inlet (2) at the bottom branches into feed pipes (12) with a quantity of nozzles (13), in order to allow the gas to fluidize a mass of catalyst particles. This internally cooled fluid bed reactor is very suitable for hydrocarbon synthesis.
