PURPOSE:To obtain the highly efficient laser output by providing a layer including Ce in a rod containing Nd as active ions and shielding the short wavelenth light from an exciting lamp. CONSTITUTION:Materials for the solid state laser such as Nd:YAG, Nd:YAlO3, and the like, with Nd as the active ions, have excellent light emitting efficiency and excellent optical quality, but are prone to be subjected to the effect of the ultraviolet light or the visible light of 5,000Angstrom or less. For example, if an Xe lamp is used for excitation, the laser oscillating efficiency is lowered by the low wavelength light of 5,000Angstrom or less. For example, if GdGa garnet crystal containing Ce is grown in the vicinity of the material of Nd:GGG by the liquid phase or gasoues phase epitaxial growth, said harmful short wavelength light can be shielded, and the highly efficient laser output in the structure simpler than the conventional color filter devices can be obtained. There is no trouble evn though Ce is added to the inside of the rod. |
