On a support or baseplate is a spool of solder wire, which is driven by a feeder through a long flexible hose into a tube fixed on or in the iron handle, so the wire travels onto the bit. The baseplate also carries a controller which supplies electric heating energy to the bit through a long flexible cable parallel with the hose. The feeder pref. contains two shafts, each carrying a knurled feed roller. One shaft is rotated by a motor and gearbox, and uses two gears to rotate the other shaft; and a spring keeps the two rollers in contact with the solder wire. An electronic circuit is pref. used to control the time during which the motor is driven, and also its r.p.m. Very accurate control of the amt. of solder wire fed onto the bit.
|
