NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I [Ar is group of formula II or III (R<1> is H or OH; R<2> is H, OH, CH3, etc.); R<3> is H; R<4> is carboxy, carboxymethyl, etx.] having the D-configuration in the 7-side chain. EXAMPLE:7[ D-alpha-( 4-Hydroxy-1, 5-naphthyridine -3- carboxamido )-alpha-( 4-hydroxyphenyl)-acetamido]3-(3'-sulfopyridinium)methyl-3-cephem-4-car boxylate. USE:An antimicrobial agent, particularly effective against a strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, readily soluble in water and injectable intravenously. PROCESS:A substituted piperidine of formula IV is reacted with a compound of formula V (M is H or a metal), preferably in water, at room temperature to 100 deg.C to give the compound of formula I. |
