PURPOSE:To obtain a superior display element by forming an opaque patterned electrode layer on a transparent substrate, by exposing and developing a photosensitive resin film, provided on the substrate surface, from the reverse surface of the substrate including the said electrode layer, and by forming a projection part of the photosensitive resin film at a no-electrode part on the substrate. CONSTITUTION:With regard to electrode substrates for an element which provides cholesteric- nematic phase transition type liquid-crystal display as X-Y matrix type one, electrode substrates 8 and 8' are provided with X and Y electrodes 2 and 2', respectively, no-electrode parts of glass substrates 1 and 1' are provided with insulating projection parts 7 and 7', and vertical orientation layers 3 and 3' are further provided over the entire surfaces of electrodes 2 and 2', and projected parts 7 and 7' of substrates 1 and 1'. The thickness of projected parts 7 and 7' is set to about 0.1-5mum so that spiral pitches of liquid crystal are many enough to obtain the storage effect. To form projected parts 7 and 7', opaque electrode layer 22 is formed on transparent substrate 21 as shown in the figure and then negative photosensitive resin coating 23 is provided covering the entire surface of substrate 21, and exposed from the substrate 21 side and developed with projected part 23' left. Thus, light scattering of a focal conic part occurring at the circumference of the display pattern is prevented to obtain clear display. |
