The entry of an item price to a point of sale terminal or cash register is expedited by placing the starting position of the decimal point in its most probable finishing position. The display accommodates m+n digits, m digits before and n digits after the decimal point. Actuation of the 'point' key terminates the entry of numbers to the left of the decimal point and places following entered numbers after the point. Depression of the 'point' key during entry of the second set of digits displaces the point to the right and to the end of the entered number. The entry system is realised using discrete electronic components. A display register (RA) holds and displays entered data, which is counted digit by digit by a counter (CC) while the position of the point is held by a second counter (CV). The operation is controlled by a control block BC with input from a keyboard (CL).
|
