Electrochemical probe - with ion selective glass tube surrounded by conductive cement for connecting cable end

An electrochemical probe, specially an ion-selective electrode for use as pH-meter, consists of a glass tube, made of an ion- selective glass which is inserted in an insulating block. A cavity in the centre of the block is used to surround the tube with a contacting layer into which connecting wire is inserted. The contacting layer is a cold-curing conductive cement or ceramic compound, specially a dental copper cement. An insulating block (1) has a transverse bore for the glass tube (2). The cavity (3) is produced by a cross bore. The annuli (4) are sealed by a non-conductive compound, e.g. silicone rubber. The cavity (3) is filled with a conductive, cold-curing compound (5) such as dental cement. Before it sets, the plug (6) with the bared end (8) of the cable (7) is inserted. This creates a simple, reproducible probe which is suitable for mass production.
