The arrangement is intended for surface finishing and/or polishing faces of a workpiece using a linearly reciprocating tool. The tool is produced by filling the recess that is to be ground or polished, or a moulding box placed against the face to be ground or polished, with a castable material which shrinks on setting. Before casting, the faces may be covered by an anti-adhesion agent. The material may be lead or plastics. During casting an anchoring bolt may be placed in the recess or mould for fixing in the tool spindle.
