The gearchange control for a hydrodynamic transmission has a control valve with several settings to ensure that a smooth changeover occurs in the servo brakes and that the torque demands on the drive change in a smooth manner. The valve is operated by a servo control pressure as a feedback control from the torque. The transmission provides a smooth takeup for gas turbine drives where sudden torque changes can damage the drive. The valve control pressure is taken from the torque converter and the gearchange operates via a flow restriction.
