AIR NOZZLE ASSEMBLY FOR USE IN APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING GLASS FIBERS

Air nozzle assembly for use in cooling the bushing used to produce glass fibers and to prevent the fibers coalescing comprises multiple nozzles(10) each of which directs a flow of air at the glass nozzle outlet. The nozzles have a cross sectional area of 40-100 mm2 and have an elliptical shape with a ratio of major to minor axis of > 2.0. The air jets impinge on the glass orifice assembly along the longitudinal center line. The arrangement permits the number of orifices (8) in a given plate size to be increased and for efficient cooling to be obtained using relatively small amounts of air.
