The exhaust-driven turbo-charger comprises a turbine whose housing contains a chamber (14,15) connected to the engine exhaust system and contains a bladed (8) rotor (6). This chamber leads to the entry side (23,24) of the rotor and is partitioned (16) to form two sub-chambers (14,15) which can each be individually connected to the exhaust system by a controllable valve in the exhaust feed duct. The rotor has an annular partition (27) which extends from the housing partition (16) at the inlet side (23,24) following at least part of the exhaust flow path between the rotor blades in a direction parallel to the contour (28) of the central rotor core.
