The invention relates to a process for the folding and further treatment of elongate textiles, especially fine hosiery articles and the like, and to an apparatus for carrying out the process. The aim of the invention is to reduce the time taken in the folding of elongate textiles, especially by the avoidance of mechanical folding members and the movement times necessary for these. The object is achieved, according to the invention, in that the folding operation takes place by means of suction air between the limiting faces of a folding shaft. Multiple folds are possible as a result of the combination of a plurality of folding shafts to form an overall system. The apparatus can be operated separately, but preferably within the system of a packaging machine and/or of the draw-off device of a shaping machine.
