PURPOSE:To simplify the evaluation of the vulcanizing adhesion of a steel cord to the rubber compound by quantitatively determining the copper oxide on the surface of a brass-plated steel cord or the copper sulfide produced by treating said surface with sulfur. CONSTITUTION:When the copper oxide existing on the steel cord surface is quantitatively determined by the reduction electrode potential method, the steel cord is cut off to a length of approximately 5cm and a portion thereof is sealed by using an adhesive so that the current density at the measuring portion is 100muA/cm<2>. Said sample 9 is electrically reduced by a reduction electrode potential measuring apparatus. Because the reduction electrode potential curve in this case corresponds to the amount of copper oxide, the amount of the copper oxide existing on the brass- plated surface can be decided within the period of time needed to reach -0.9V, and from the amount of said copper oxide the adhesion can be evaluated. Thereby, it is possible to simply evaluate the vulcanizing adhesion of the steel cord to the rubber compound. |
