The control comprises a switch (11) with a voltage divider having a number of divider stages connected to respective switch positions. The output of the switch is connected by a single output line (12) to a multiple threshold switch (13) with its outputs connected directly or via a control device (14), incorporating interval or delay stages, to the wiper motor (15). Alternatively, the multiple thresholds switch and the motor may be combined. The control requires only one control line and is unaffected by interference within the vehicle wiring harness. It allows the wiper motor to be switched between different wiper operating speeds and between continuous and intermittent operation.
