The engine has intake and outlet valves, a cyclex rocker arm, a pre-combustion chamber with a variable vol. and radial injection of the fuel mixture into the combustion chamber. The coal dust is supplied via a feed screw, and an ultrasonic atomiser with a monitor for the dielectric constant of the atomised fuel and a carbon monoxide probe for the exhaust gases maintaining the optimum fuel mixture in dependence on the engine load. The fuel mixture is injected radially into the stroke chamber via tangential slits. The piston pref. has a cylindrical extension at the top end with a dia. smaller than the piston itself. The cylinder has an annular groove, so that at the lower dead point rinsing air is forced above the highest piston ring between the piston extension and the cylinder wall.
