The arrangement is intended for hydraulically compressing a gas in a vertically downward flow of liquid, particularly for compressing a gas or vapour from a vacuum evaporator to atmospheric pressure. This is used for absorbing gas in a liquid, or for aerating waste water. The liquid enters (through 6) into an eddy chamber (4) of a vertical passage (1) and draws in (through 7) the gas. The mixture then passes through a number of narrow parallel passages (at 3) where the flow pattern is straightened after which the partial flows travel down with equal velocity through the lower end (5) of the passage.
