Measuring level in bulk material or grain container - using rod electrode pairs in container wall which form field electrode

The level sensor is for bulk goods in a container and has at least three pairs of electrodes, one of which is fully immersed in the goods and acts as a reference electrode pair. The sensor performs reliable measurement of the level of the bulk goods. One pair of electrodes (6,12; 7,12) is placed outside the bulk material (4). At least one further pair of electrodes (6,13-16; 7,13-16) is placed between the uppermost and fully immersed electrode pairs. The electrodes are rod-shaped and are mounted vertically or horizontally with insulation in the container wall (1). The rod electrodes are divided into several sections so as to produce different electrode pairs. The container wall is used as an auxiliary electrode which forms a field sensed by the electrode pairs. The electrode responses are passed to a microprocessor (8) which is programmable to control the level.
