PVC plastisol-based compsns. for vehicle underbody protection, coating and sealing compsns., are comprised of (a) 100 pts. wt. finely divided vinyl chloride (co)polymer, (b) 1-12 pts. wt. adhesion promoter(s), (c) 100-200 pts. wt. plasticiser (mixt), (d) 10-100 pts. wt. of a filler (mixt.) with an average particle dia. of less than 1 micrometre, (e) 10-100 pts. wt. rubber flour, rubber powder or finely milled scrap rubber and (f) opt. pigments, stabilisers and/or other adjuvants. Pref. the wt. ratio (d):(e) is 10:1 to 1:10, esp. 4:1 to 1:4. Comspn. pref. contains 20-80 pts. wt. finely divided inorganic filler, 2-8 pts. wt. adhesion promoter, 130-180 pts. wt. plasticiser, 20-80 pts. wt. rubber powder and 1-3 pts. wt. stabilisers, etc. The prods. may be applied to phosphated or primed metal surfaces by spraying, airless spray, brushing or trowelling to give protective coatings with excellent mechanical properties, and excellent resistance to impact by stones, etc.
