A plastic plate has a spring region consisting of and/or bordered by elements sepd. by cutouts so that they can flex, twist and/or stretch elastically. The plate is pref. moulded integrally with a seat shell. The region may be defined by parallel straps laid side by side with a sinusoidal pattern, by star-like contour holes in which radial fingers respond primarily to flexure, or by comb-like cutouts forming facing flexible teeth. Fingers or teeth may extend in the same plane as the plate or be raised by bending upwardly to contact an intermediate plate which distributes loads uniformly.
