PURPOSE:To enhance the rate of light utilization, by making discharge electrodes to be placed opposite to one another with a separation along the direction of the axis of the sealed body. CONSTITUTION:A pair of metal foils 23 and 23' are fitted into a pressed sealing part 22 of a one-end sealed body 21. The metal foil 23 connects with and supports an internal lead bar 24, which extends along the axis X within the sealed body 21. A discharge electrode 25 is provided at the end of the bar 24. The metal foil 23' connects with and supports an internal lead bar 24', which extends along the vicinity of the side wall within the sealed body 21. A coil-like supporting part 26 whose axis coincides with the axis X, is provided at the end of the bar 24'. The part 26, which touches the outer surface of an electrode 27, supports the electrode 27. Through the means mentioned above, the discharge electrode 25 and 27 encounter one another along the axis X, with a separation. |
