PURPOSE:To prevent peeling due to heat impact to obtain a higher durability in use by covering the surface of a carrier made o a metal with a precious metal catalyst component or a metal oxide layer having a bonded section alloyed by diffusion. CONSTITUTION:A precious metal such as Pt and Pd is penetrated and diffused into the surface of Ni, a Ni alloy, Cr or a Cr alloy to form a alloy layer 2 thereon with a catalytic capacity. Otherwise, a metal such as Cr, Ni, Cu, Al, Ti and Mn is diffused to cover the surface of a carrier to form an alloy layer 2 and undergoes a chemical treatment to produce an oxide of said diffused metal. The carrier can be shaped as desired such as a ribbon, peeling, spiral and honey comb. The thickness is generally 10-300mu and the carrier metal on the uppermost surface of the catalyst is 0.1-99wt% in the concentration. |
