Linz-Donawitz slag is used as material contributing iron, together with preformed constituents of the clinker. A paste which is substantially deficient in ferruginous additives is introduced into the drying zone of the kiln, a desired quantity of milled Linz-Donawitz slag is introduced into the kiln via the tuyere in order to make up the deficit of the paste, and these slags are incorporated in the calcined paste in the baking zone of the kiln.
