PROPIONIC ACID DERIVATIVE AND ITS PREPARATION

NEW MATERIAL:A propionic acid derivative of formula I (R<1> is methoxyphenyl; R<2> is H or lower aliphatic acyl; R<3> is H or lower alkyl) or a salt thereof. EXAMPLE:2-Hydroxy-3-p-methoxyphenyl-3- [ o-[ 2-( dimethylamino ) ethylamino ] phenyl]thiopropionic acid. USE:A hypotensive agent. PROCESS:A 2-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl-3-(o-aminophenyl)thio-propionic acid compound of formula II (R<4> is a protecting group of the amino group) having the protected amino group is reacted with a dimethylaminoethyl halide of formula III (X<1> is halogen) to give a thio-propionic acid compound of formula IV. The protecting group of the amino group is then removed from the compound of formula IV to afford the compound of formula I.
