<p>An alkali hydrogen carbonate (A), is used as alkaline agent in 2,3,4,4-tetrachloro-2-butenoic acid, (I) prepn. by (a) reacting tetrachlorocyclo-butenone, (II), with the aq. soln. of an alkaline agent, and then (b) treating the reaction prod. with a strong acid. Molar ratio (A):(II) is pref. 1.1:1 to 3:1. (A) and (II) are reacted at 0-50 deg.C., opt. for 30-360 min. Esters, esp. 1-12 (1-8)C alkyl esters of (I) are used as activators in ethylene-propylene-(diene)-elastomer prepn. with Ziegler-Natta catalysts. (I) is obtd. in good yields, free from di-acids. Purification, before or after esterification, is no longer necessary. (II) contg. up to 70 wt.% diluent can be used.</p> |
